Cycle 2

In Cycle 2, we follow the general stream of the MOE system. We emphasize the development of understanding through real-world connections and ideas, ensuring that students investigate and compare concepts across the various subjects they study. Beyond academic knowledge, Cycle 2 emphasizes developing transferable skills such as collaborative teamwork, effective communication, and strategic planning. These skills are critical in various professional contexts, thus preparing students for future success in their educational journey.

Teaching Methods

The instructional approaches of Cycles 2 and 3 show a noticeable emphasis on progressive and multifaceted teaching methodologies, highlighting a combination of project-based learning and hands-on laboratory experiences. Students actively participate in practical projects, elevating their comprehension of theoretical concepts while honing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Specialized labs, including those for STEAM, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, contribute to the richness of the learning journey by enabling students to experiment and observe real-world applications of their studies. The instructional philosophy prioritizes a student-centered approach, empowering learners to take charge of their educational path, fostering independence, and nurturing self-motivation.

A fundamental aspect of these cycles is the promotion of literacy and reading, seamlessly integrated into various subjects. Through literacy connections, students cultivate essential reading and comprehension skills crucial for academic success. The utilization of the Achieve3000 platform serves as a prime example of this focus, delivering a tailored, accelerated reading program that enhances individual student levels, refining their reading, comprehension, and overall literacy skills.

Moreover, integrating technology into the learning process is a crucial component of these cycles. Technology is not merely a tool; it is an integral part of the learning experience, heightening the accessibility and engagement of educational content.

It provides diverse and innovative avenues for students to interact with material, collaborate with peers, and gain fresh perspectives, thereby equipping them for the technologically advanced world they will encounter as adults. This comprehensive approach in Cycles 2 and 3 ensures that students emerge both academically proficient and technologically adept, well-rounded, and ready to tackle future challenges.

Intervention & Support

In Cycles 2 and 3, we focus on catering to our student’s individual needs and learning styles to ensure the best for their success. EAL students struggling to access the curriculum are entitled to specialized English sessions in leveled groups where students learn by stage, not age (according to their reading ability). This approach gives students highly focused lessons in multi-grade level classrooms to accelerate their progress while offering a less stressful environment as students work with peers of the same ability. This optimizes their time in school and their learning experience.

Upon completing the modules, students who complete the program join their grade-level English class with in-class support for EAL. Math has a similar program to build students’ mental math skills as this is a particular area of need for students. Once a week, a session solely focuses on mental math (Arithmetic Math) and the skills that each group of students is working to achieve.
